متن کاملEffects of Land Use and Land Cover changes on Soil Organic Carbon and Total Nitrogen Stocks in the Olesharo Catchment, Narok County, Kenya
Land Use and Land Cover Change (LULCC) is the most prominent cause of Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) variability in any landscape. Kenyan Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) have been facing extensive land use/ cover changes in the last three decades prompting a review on the impacts it has on soil quality and consequently on land degradation. This study was carried out in 2016 in Olesharo Catchment, N...
متن کاملDisplaced in Nature: The Cultural Production of (Non-)Place in Place-Based Forest Conservation Pedagogy
This study examines spatial practices in a forest conservation education program that incorporates place as a tool to teach environmental and forestry issues to schoolchildren and connect them with nature. By analyzing educational forests, ‘‘talking-tree trails,’’ classes taught to children, and how visitors move throughout the sites, this paper argues that people and practices within the fores...
متن کاملDetermining the Spatial Location of Lookout Towers in Rapid Forest Fire Detection Using Geographic Information System (GIS)
Degradation of forests by fire has several environmental and socio-economic impacts and causes a disruption in the balance of ecosystems. Thus, rapid identification of fire using fires detection towers is necessary to reduce destructive effects in forests. Therefore, the purpose of this study is the identification of best and optimal locations to install fire detection towers using Digital Elev...

Tropical montane habitats, grasslands, in particular, merit urgent conservation attention owing to the disproportionate levels of endemic biodiversity they harbour, the ecosystem services they provide, and the fact that they are among the most threatened habitats globally. The Shola Sky Islands in the Western Ghats host a matrix of native forest-grassland matrix that has been planted over the l...
